Uryu Marsh
PH
Uryu Marsh, which stretches 4 km from east to west and 2 km from north to south on the tableland 850m above sea level, is one of the largest mountainous high moor in the country. The marsh is dotted with dozens of swamps of various sizes. From when it thaws in spring to autumn, more than 200 varieties of flowers and other plants can be seen. In particular, during the short summer season from early July to early August, many kinds of alpine plants, such as ezokanzo (day lilies), bloom throughout, adorning the marsh with their vivid colors.

PH
Located in the Historical Coal Village, Yubari, this rose garden is home to 22,000 roses from 260 varieties on its vast site. Their white, red, yellow and pink colors, fragrances, beauty and impressiveness are overwhelming.

Lilacs
PH
Lilac is the official tree of Sapporo.
Odori Park, which stretches roughly 1.5 km from east to west and emanates sweet fragrances in early summer, is adorned with 400 trees: 30 white lilacs and 370 purple lilacs. The best season for viewing the flowers is from late May to June. Lilacs, also called lilas (French) and Murasaki-hashidoi (Japanese), belong to the oleaceous family, originating in Afghanistan. The refreshing flowers well match the modern streets in this northern region featuring fountains, the TV Tower and the Clock Tower.
Alpine plants in Mt. Apoi
PH
Mt. Apoi is popular as a treasure trove of alpine plants rare even throughout Japan. Since the mountain is situated near the shore, dense fogs originating over the sea cover Mt. Apoi, blocking sunlight and lowering temperatures, particularly during summer. In addition, strong winds from the shore force plants to be hardy against the cold. These facts explain why Mt. Apoi is inhabited by so many alpine plants.

Rows of cherry trees
These are rows of cherry trees along Nijukken Road, whose scale is said to be the largest in Japan. In May, blossoms of some 10,000 cherry trees along both sides of the road, which is 20 ken (36 m) in width and 8 km in length. The trees flower at the same time and produce a breathtaking landscape.
The Cherry Blossom Festival is held here in early May of each year, attracting many visitors.
Irises
From late June to July, many people from both in and outside the city visit Ayame (Iris) Park, 4.2 ha in area, in Iwamizawa, because it is filled with 150,000 irises from 168 varieties, including kakitsubata and Japanese irises, adorned with their vivid purple and dark blue. Each year in mid-July, the Ayame (Iris) Festival is held. During the festival, outdoor tea ceremonies, koto (Japanese harp) concerts and other events are conducted in a resplendent atmosphere.
