In late May, chishima-zakura cherry trees, which are said to be a variety of Japanese alpine cherry from Kunashiri and Etorofu Islands, are in full bloom, providing an opportunity to enjoy viewing the last cherry blossoms of the year on the Japanese islands.
Chishima-zakura cherry trees in Seiryu-ji Temple in Nemuro are more than 100 years old, designated as protected trees in Hokkaido and also as the official tree of the city. |
